Shutter Island Opening
We watched Shutter Island in media class today to get a good example of the opening two minutes of a thriller. The opening was informative and a good characteristic of a thriller as it incorporated crime, guns, danger and a sense of the unknown just from the opening. It is a detective/crime film with Leonardo Di Caprio as a detective investigating the mentally challanged in a prision like facility located on an isolated island; this gives an added sense of danger as we are informed the boat is the only way on or off meaning there is no escaping and adding claustrophobia which are both common in the thriller genre. Although our thriller is not about detectives it was a good opening to extract ideas and characterists of thrillers from, which we can incorporate in ours.
