Evaluation of Advertisment Poster

Creating SMAK’s promotion poster to accompany our album cover we tried to keep the look and feel, layout, colour scheme and image as similar to the albums as possible to maintain synergy and uphold the specific ‘image’ of the band. The image we chose to use was from the same shoot in which we took our album cover, of a young, bare-knuckle fighter. It again portrays the band as a young, rebellious, anti-authority group and by not using a member of the band in the image it is not subjective just to the band but is symbolical of all youths. The colour scheme and font of the text we kept the same on the album cover and poster, and like the album cover we tried to maintain  simplicity on the poster, only having the title of the band, song, release date and code. The code offers a new technological form of advertising which is recognised with our target audience; youth recognise the code as a hyperlink to a website which can be accessed through blackberry’s i-phones and other mobiles which are popular with the youth of today. I feel that the poster was a success as it not only upholds our bands star image but it has synergy with our album cover which will mean it will be recognisable to our target audience.

Evaluation of Album Cover

When creating our album cover we looked at many drum and bass covers for inspiration, we chose Chase and Status who wrote the song ‘Let you go’ as particular inspiration for our cover which we based on their urban, arty style. Their album covers use urban, gritty artistic photography to represent their style in their album. We adapted their style and took a number of urban artistic shots of a youth bare knuckle fighter who is representative of the young, rebellious, urban youth audience who we target as a band. We kept the layout of the album cover simplistic with the band and song title as the only added element to the cover. The inside cover features a similar design and image layout with the fighter youth as the main attraction of the cover along with a smashed record which symbolises rebellion and anti-authorial image. Overall I think that the album cover worked very well as it not only feeds in and conforms to the star image of SMAK but it will also appeal to our target audience, conforming to other drum and bass album covers due to the research done and influence from artists such as Chase and Status.

Digipack

Initial Digipack Photoshoot

We did a photoshoot for our digipack in order to get a number of urban, gritty original photographs that would fit in with our band's star image and would be interesting and relevant for our target audience. The photoshoot was of a bare knuckle fighter in an urban environment which we thought conformed to our band's rebellious and anti-authoritarian image.

To whom It may concern,

We are a group of A level media students from Hurtwood House School.
We are writing to you for permission to film in Guildford town center and other surrounding areas for our coursework. The video would consist of people wandering the streets. There are two different groups within our video, this is made up youths and a group of the older generation. The youths will be leading the older generation by a guitar lead as bait to capture them. All of the capturing will be filmed in our studios at school.

The video will not be defamating the image of your town what so ever, there will also be no reference to  the name of the town or any street names. Any mess will be automatically cleared up. We will be supervised by our teachers under strict instructions. We also are writing to possibly get permission to shoot a wide shot of Guildfords Skatepark? again any mess will be cleared. The video has currently been set in date for Wednesday the 9th of November. We are planning to film at around about 4:00pm In Guildford after spending the morning filming at school.

We would appreciate a response and hope to hear from you soon.

Many thanks

Animatic Storyboard Evaluation

Creating the animatic storyboard was very positive in the progression of our final idea for our music video, we had previously created a timeline of events in the video however by using photographs and drawings in a storyboard format it really brought our video to life and gave us an insight to the finished product. As our group has never created an animatic storyboard before it was a learning experience and took quite a while to do the filming of each individual storyboard as we had a lot of them and filmed each for 10 seconds to make sure we had enough time for each storyboard section. By creating the storyboard we changed and finalised our idea, it is not as we first planned but I feel the idea has progressed and now it works as a finalised idea. The editing of the video worked fairly smoothly and everyone got a go at both the editing and filming which refreshed everyone’s camera and editing skills, preparing us for our final shoot fairly soon. Overall I feel the whole experience went well, our idea has progressed successfully, the animatic storyboard greatly helped this and I am looking forward to replicating our idea in our actual video.

Animatic Storyboard

After creating our storyboard we then created an anamatic storyboard by filming and editing our storyboard using Final Cut Pro; this process was very useful as not only has it left us with an animated storyboard which gives us a moving insight into how our music video will look but it also gave us a chance to refresh our filming and editing skills.
